Girls avowed
COMEDY! Pulling, BBC3, 10.30pm
We didn't get a chance to talk about this one last week because we were busy talking about Blunder instead. We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for utterly wasting your time there, because Blunder was what we in the trade call "really not very good at all". Pulling, however, got quite a warm reception on our messageboard, so we're attempting to make up for lost time by talking about it now.
Admittedly, the set-up isn't hugely original: Donna is set to marry the nice but dull Karl, but has a moment of epiphany on her hen night and realises that's not how she wants to spend the rest of her life, so she ditches Karl and moves into a shared house with two of her single female friends to experience life on the other side again. That said, the folk on the boards appreciated the sense of misery pervading the whole thing, which by all accounts was a nice touch. And, y'know, it was funny too, which helped.
It stars Sharon Horgan, whom you may recognise from Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive and Broken News, who also co-wrote and created it. And it really is fantastically depressing in a very funny way, and it's not often you get to say that.
