Old school
ROCK! Young@Heart, Channel 4, 9.00pm
We meant to draw your attention to this one when it first aired on More4 a couple of weeks ago, but we have a sneaking suspicion that we got distracted by Neighbours or Hollyoaks or something, as we are wont to do. It's perhaps not your typical LOWCULTURE fayre, but don't let that put you off.
Basically, it's about a choir-cum-rock-group comprised entirely of elderly people, whose live shows have apparently become quite the hot ticket, with their repertoire of classics such as 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' and 'Forever Young' and suchlike. Obviously all of these songs are chosen carefully in order to have a very pronounced double meaning when performed by these less-than-sprightly performers. Apparently their quest for one member to perform Coldplay's 'Fix You' is especially potent.
Anyway, we're not going to make any cheap jokes about this one just because it sounds like it's actually going to be a very good programme in its own right. And if you think we're somehow betraying our roots by promoting serious documentaries and suchlike, just think: it's a bunch of pensioners doing rock music. If there's absolutely no LOWCULTURE appeal in there, we might as well just pack up and go home now.
