POWERLESS! Smallville, E4, 9.00pm

It's perhaps fair to say that season four of Smallville was not up there among the finest. We watched most of the episodes and we still really didn't get the whole deal with that freaky tattoo on Lana's back, or exactly what the lovely Jensen Ackles was there for. Season five, however, is firing on all cylinders again, and has been rewarded by far stronger ratings in the States. Although that could also be attributed to the guest appearance of a certain James Marsters in this season, of course - either way, we're not about to quibble.

We're only three episodes in, and already so much has happened. Clark has opened up to Chloe about his big secret, and has somewhat carelessly lost his super powers. This did, however, pave the way for him being able to sleep with Lana, which paints the whole thing a rather interesting colour of Samson and Delilah. Yes, we're looking for biblical allegories in this show. Don't look at us like that.

Poor befuddled Clark is still entirely lacking in superpowers at the moment, which must be quite the pisser, we're sure. Especially since a somewhat troubled former classmate has informed Chloe that he will be firing a missile at Smallville with the intention of totally destroying it (we're not entirely sure why, but we trust he has his reasons). We don't want to give away too much in the way of spoilers, but let's just say that if you're planning to watch the rest of this season, you really ought to watch tonight's episode because something extremely pivotal and dramatic is going to happen. Nope. That's all you're getting. Move along, there's absolutely nothing to see here.

Was Clark unable to sleep with Lana when he had superpowers because his cock would be like a torpedo, his spunk like a bullet? Or, y'know, more cerebral reasons?

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
