H BOMB

Much to the surprise of pretty much everyone, H out of Steps sneaked back onto our TV screens at the weekend. The occasion was the launch of a Channel 4 documentary about his attempts to become a "serious" performer by enrolling in a posh music academy.
For the next seven weeks, we will be able to enjoy candid footage of H as he tries to adapt to his new life, and all the sacrifices it will require. We were particularly moved that, like all other students, he had to make his way to his first day at college in an ordinary black cab instead of a chauffeur-driven limo. Such hardship!
Given the amount of swearing that H was doing, we're slightly suspicious that he might have been expecting his show to go out in a slot somewhat closer to prime time, but frankly we're just pathetically grateful that it's being shown at all.
Chief among the many delights the programme has to offer are the numerous celebrity cameos – ranging from the other members of Steps (with the notable exception of Lee) to such showbiz titans as Claire Sweeney and Brian Dowling.
One of the most captivating scenes in the the first episode was the one in which Brian and a young friend gatecrashed H's dressing room on the occasion of his last appearance in Joseph And His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat – mainly because both boys seemed slightly taken aback at the sight of H's rather impressive physique. Brian in particular didn't seem to know where to look. But luckily, as our picture shows, he soon thought of somewhere – and it certainly wasn't H's face!
The fun continues in H Side Story next Sunday lunchtime on C4 - we'll remind you at the end of the week (unless, of course, we forget all about it).

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
