IMMACULATE! Anthea Turner: Perfect Housewife, BBC3, 8.00pm

Anthea Turner: Perfect HousewifeIt's official: housewifery is cool again. Whether it's the influence of Wisteria Lane or not, it's no longer shameful to want to stay at home and keep the place immaculate and greet your husband wearing nothing but an apron and a smile (or is just us wanting to do that?). One thing we weren't expecting, however, was the appearance of Anthea Turner as the patron saint of housewives. Then again, we suppose she had to be doing something since she's not so much on the TV any more.

It does seem that Anthea is now a dab hand with a feather duster and an Aga, so she's taking to task some of the country's most hopeless housewives in the hope that she can make them into domestic goddesses. Interestingly, the contestants are taken into Anthea's country mansion while they learn the skills, and we can't help wondering if any of the contestants on this show were only in it for a chance to snoop around all the parts that Hello! magazine never gets to see.

Nevertheless, Anthea's convinced she can whip these hopeless homemakers into shape, and it'll be interesting to see the results. What with Noel Edmonds making a comeback in Deal or No Deal over on Channel 4 and now Anthea back on our screens, it looks like a renaissance. We can't help wondering who might be next...

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
