In bed with Madonna, drinking cocoa and reading a nice book

INTIMATE! I'm Going to Tell You a Secret, Channel 4, 9.00pm

Don't panic, we're not going to tell you what happens at the end of Lost, we're just drawing your attention to the 95th programme this week about Madonna. Despite the conspiracy by a small yet insanely dedicated group of Mariah Carey fans on the internet, Madonna's comeback has been what you might loosely term "successful" and everybody's going around whistling the intro from 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)'. Job done, you might think. But no, the Queen of Pop never does things by halves, and hot on the heels of Sunday's somewhat uncomfortable interview with Dermot O'Leary, we're now treated to this fly-on-the-wall documentary behind the scenes on Mads's Re-invention tour.

Those of us who have seen In Bed With Madonna (or Truth or Dare, to use its official but signficantly lamer title) will have quite high expectations of just what this documentary is likely to deliver. Sex! Drugs! Rock 'n' roll! Except we're told that it actually shows Madonna maturing as an artist, and developing her desire to shock into a desire to educate the world about her concerns via her music. Except that doesn't sound like quite as much fun, so we hope at least they'll show some dancers wanking or something.

Whatever the outcome, it's always fun to dissect and overanalyse the personal life of a pop icon, so this should be a must-see.

Truth Or Dare is a much better and subtle title than the predictable and boring In Bed With Madonna. Sorry! It's true!

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
