Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
FUNNY! Extras, BBC2, 9.00pm
Let us just say categorically first of all that we hope the quality of gag in this show is significantly better than the one we used in the headline. We’re very sorry about that. Anyway, there can’t be many people reading this who won’t recognise this as the eagerly anticipated new sitcom from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, creators of The Office. We will point out that we heard an interesting rumour on the internet the other day that Ricky refused to let the BBC show this on BBC1 and insisted it go out on BBC2, because he didn’t want it to be mainstream. That attitude is rather alarmingly NME for our tastes, although we have no way of knowing if the entire show was recorded without the aid of computers. Moving swiftly on, tonight we will be introduced to Andy Millman, extra extraordinaire, hoping for his big break whilst playing a series of unmemorable roles. The premise allows for a lot of big name guests (including Ben Stiller in this opening episode). Despite the indieness of a BBC2 premiere, the show is so high profile that we doubt there’s anything we can say about it that hasn’t been said a hundred times already. Apart from saying that it was filmed in its entirety on location in a toilet, but the reason that hasn’t already been said a hundred times is because it isn’t true.

I must say that I was bitterly disappointed. It didn't even raise a titter.
