Welcome to Wednesday, August 25. We'd be lying if we said it was the best day of the year for facts, but we blame that on a lack of effort by the whole of mankind since the dawn of time. Or something.
» A car dealer in Tennessee was offering a "buy a car, get a rifle free" deal to hit back at anti-gun campaigners in 2000. Er, we'll settle for some fancy alloys or air conditioning, thanks.
» On the same day, it was suggested Germans aren't a bad tempered lot (though we never even suggested they were!) - any frowns they bear are simply down to the pronounciation of their language, apparently.
» It was on this day in 1999 that Ross Kemp, aka Grant Mitchell, filmed his final EastEnders scenes after nine years on the soap. He was pursuing a glittering drama career on ITV, but we don't think he ran all that fast.
» Happy birthday: Occasional visitor to Scotland, Sean Connery (74), spooky film director Tim Burton (46), mulleted, line dancer-inspiring buffoon Billy Ray Cyrus (43), and smiley-in-a-vacant-sort-of-way supermodel Claudia Schiffer (33).
