» "In The Navy" reached number three in America, and number two in Britain in 1979. The Amrican Navy considered using it as a recruitment song, until it was pointed out that The Village People weren't so much concerned with military action than, er, bumming.
» It was reported that the trend for short hair among women had caused a boom in the hairdressing industry in 1927.
» An Essex man was cycling the equivelant distance of a round-the-world trip in his living room in 2000. Mike Roots had already covered 35,000 miles, and was due to finish by 2009. Perhaps he was only doing it during holiday shows so he didn't miss the views.
» The England football team revealed the new off-the-field suit, designed by Giorgio Armani. The designer was not responsible for David Beckham's painful looking braids, to our knowledge.
» Happy birthday to: The James Fox that everyone is talking about - yep, the actor who starred in Sexy Beast and The Remains of the Day who turns 65 today. Also celebrating are singer/actress Grace Jones (52), comedienne Victoria Wood (51), 80s pop star Yasmin Evans, aka Yazz (41), and former Word presenter Amanda De Cadenet (32).
» Unrelated fact of the day: The two sides of a dolphin's brain operate independently, taking it in turns to sleep for eight hours.
