LIQUID NEWS: A TRIBUTE

They say all good things come to an end sometimes. And tonight is one of those times, for BBC3 flagship Liquid News moistens our screens with its final show tonight.
In a world saturated by ten-a-penny reality TV shows and countless home improvement programmes (the lovely Alistair Appleton on House Doctor excepted), it's truly sad to see a genuinely entertaining show disappear from the schedules.
It's been hard enough seeing Liquid News shunted to graveyard shift, but it will be truly testing to see Paddy and Claudia* sign off for the final time tonight.
Now, we can quite happily stayed tuned to BBC3 for hours at a time, but part of us does feel that the schedule is simply being smudged together to cover the programme's departure for the meantime.
We were particularly fond of the show's approach to interviews, cutting through the air of pretention and self-importance of the celebrity world to show the guests in their relaxed and generally more personable forms.
We've been long-term fans of the programme here at lowculture, so it's only fitting that we should mark the finale with a word from the main man himself, Paddy O'Connell, who says:
Dear lowculture
I just wanted to write to say thank you for your big-up of Liquid News over the last few months.
It's being axed this week, and of the many things to remember, you should know that the team was always chuffed by your mentions whenever they came on the site.
I hope that unlike us you are continuing to go from strength to strength and that your empire swells impressively.
Love
Paddy O'Connell
Presenter Liquid News

And as we sit here and gently swell, it only remains for us to wish Paddy, Claudia and the rest of the team all the best for the future.
Oh, and to remind you that the final Liquid News begins at midnight on BBC3 tonight, followed by a tribute to former presenter, the late Christopher Price at 12.30am. Make it your duty to watch both.
*For some reason, we always picture the Sounds Superb Singers sauntering in the background whenever Claudia's name is mentioned. We can't remember the name of the slumber-party themed programme she presented with Katie Puckrik in which they appeared, and an internet search along those lines generates a "naked nude sex oops" response, so we think we'd best leave it there for the moment.

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
