FUCK ME FACTS!
Amazing things about Thursday, March 18:
» On this day in 1945, all schools and universities were closed, and everyone over the age of six ordered to do war work. And to think, we used to complain about being sent out in the Orkney winters at playtime.
» Two years later, Prince Philip of Greece was made a naturalised Briton. Apparently, his married-to-the-queen-ness-ness was born on a kitchen table in Corfu.
» The National Fat Women's Conference was held for the first time in Britain on this day in 1989. Ten years later, to the day, it was announced that models smaller than a size eight would be banned from Barcelona Fashion Week. And two years ago, it was revealed the Mars bar was in line for a multi-million pound relaunch to create a healthier image. We're guessing putting the message "please do not fry in batter" on the wrapper would have been a start.
» U2 were awarded £500 after winning a talent contest while still at school in 1978. Hoorah! But they were fined £500 by the Irish Family Planning Association for selling condoms illegally at the Dublin Virgin Megastore. Fucksocks! (literally).
» Happy birthday to: American singer Irene Cara, 45, whose hits include "What a Feeling" and "Fame", rapper and actress Queen Latifah (34), and singer Shola Ama (25).
