X-RATED! Respectable, Five, 10.30pm

Remember everything we said yesterday about not recommending new comedy shows until we'd seen at least one episode? Yeah, uh, we lied. But hopefully you'll understand our reasons for breaking our own rules here.

It's a sitcom set in a brothel, for starters. We find it hard to believe that no one's ever thought of this before, but we certainly can't think of any examples (feel free to use the comments section below to correct us). It's from people who list Monkey Dust, Da Ali G Show and The 11 O'Clock Show (well, no one's perfect) among their achievements. And it also includes former Hollyoaks star Jodi Albert as one of the hookers (insert your own joke about prostitution being an inevitable post-Hollyoaks career choice here), as well as Cordelia Bugeja from the original cast of Family Affairs and Helen "Georgia 'Incestuous' Simpson from Brookside" Grace. There's your LOWCULTURE value right there.

Only problem being we haven't actually seen it, so it might still be rubbish. (And having seen Suburban Shootout, we're not going to get our hopes up too much.) But don't blame us if it is, eh?

I am really thrilled that Cordelia Bugeja actually has a proper TV acting job!

Verdict: It was OK. It's hard to like Jodi Albert, though. I'm thrilled also to see that Cordelia 'Advert Lady' Bugeja has a speaking part in something where she's not trying to flog us yoghurt, chewing gum or cars! Yay for her!

Was the receptionist/maid the girl who played Joy's secret daughter Stella in Bad Girls a couple of weeks back? None of the usual reliable internet sites have enough information on them for me to join up the dots (yet). And the character didn't make it into the Radio Times cast list. Don't even remember her name, actually. Was it her?

Helen Modern played Naomi the maid, and is the same actor as was in Bad Girls. And it's hard not to like Jodi Albert.

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
