SPUN-OFF! Hollyoaks: In The City, E4, 9.00pm

Hollyoaks: In The CityOnce upon a time, back in the good old days, an actor leaving Hollyoaks meant you could look forward to not having to worry about encountering them on your screen for months, possibly even years (indeed, Dannielle Brent said as much when she landed the role of Natalie Buxton in Bad Girls - most casting directors balk at the thought of seeing a Hollyoaks alumnus). But that was a simpler time, before Paul Danan became a perpetual Love Island pest, before Terri Dwyer appeared on every chat show going, and before E4 started giving them spinoffs.

And so it is that we're back with further adventures of Ben and Johnny Vegas - sorry, "Lisa" - as they live their glamorous adult life. We're not entirely sure whether this series follows directly on from the hilariously rubbish Hollyoaks: Let Loose or whether it operates in its own universe, so we can't say whether there'll be any more quasi-incestuous shenanigans between boring guest characters that we neither know nor care about, but we will say that this is post-watershed Hollyoaks when all's said and done, so expect gratuitous swearing and nudity. We can also expect Kym Marsh. Hooray!

In tonight's opening episode, Lisa is signed by a modelling agency. We'll resist making jokes about her physical appearance, but we will say that we hope they're all silent modelling jobs.

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
