Gillian Taylforth's
Birthday Fact Frenzy
Today is actress Gillian Taylforth's 51st birthday, which seems as good a reason as any to present you with the latest LOWCULTURE Birthday Fact Frenzy. And what makes our fact frenzies more special then all the others? That's right - every second fact on the list is completely made up!
1. Gillian was originally turned down for the part of Kathy Beale in EastEnders because she looked too young to be Ian's mum. She won producers over by promising to have a few late nights.
2. When she starred in Footballers' Wives, it was written in to Gillian's contract that her screen son, Gary Lucy, was not allowed to look directly at her when the cameras weren't rolling.*
3. Gillian will shortly be joining the cast of The Bill as Sgt Nikki Wright.
4. This will be a busman's holiday for our Gill, who was a police inspector in the northern town of Hartley for several years in the early 1980s. The BBC filmed her exploits for the early docusoap Juliet Bravo.*
5. Gillian is not one for dieting, but does watch what she eats – and she loves fruit and veg!
6. When Kathy Beale set up a knitwear stall in EastEnders, Gillian used to amuse herself between takes by trying on the various jumpers.*
7. Want to have fresh, young-looking skin like Gillian? She recommends microdermabrasion and laser skin treatment.
8. Gillian's favourite Black Eyed Peas song is My Humps.*
9. In the early 80s, Gillian was Christopher Biggins' glamorous assisant on the children's gameshow shitfest On Safari .
10. The producers of Footballers' Wives had to use a stunt double for that scene where Gillian got the ride of her life off Jason Turner on top of a snooker table – because she has a morbid fear of green beize.*
