It's not exactly Holby City
NURSE! Angel Of Death: The Beverly Allitt Story, BBC1, 9.00pm
Despite the awesomely made-for-TV movie title (seriously, if you didn't know what this was about, wouldn't you automatically assume it starred Tori Spelling and Ivan Sergei?), this doesn't seem at first glance to be something particularly LOWCULTURE-y. For the uninitiated, and those of you who genuinely are expecting Shannen Doherty to pop up in a cameo, this is the dramatisation of the story of Beverly Allitt, the so-called "Angel of Death" (which you really should have got from the title) who murdered four children and harmed several more while working as a nurse in a hospital in Grantham.
The reason we've chosen to recommend this - not that we think for a second it won't be an extremely good programme regardless - is that Charlie Brooks will be playing the role of Beverly Allitt. We truly miss Charlie's presence on EastEnders, and still can't help thinking that the rot that's currently setting into the programme first appeared around the time that she left. We have very little doubt that her considerable acting chops will be put to good use in this, although after this and Bleak House, we wonder if it's too much to ask to see her in something more cheerful?
