Exit, pursued by a bear
ACTING! The Starlet, Living TV, 8.00pm
We mentioned this show briefly last week, but we feel compelled to mention it again given our extreme love of all reality shows, especially American ones. For those of you who missed last week's segment, a group of wannabe actresses are competing for a role on a top-rated WB show. Sorry: they're competing for a role on One Tree Hill. Our mistake.
So it's basically America's Next Top Actress, and the cast is full of flat-chested bespectacled drama graduates who are just longing to speak the words of Chekov in a small fringe production. Kidding! They are, of course, largely a group of collagened skanks who couldn't give a toss about the craft of acting and just want to be photographed on a red carpet next to Chad Michael Murray. And the show is far more entertaining for that fact.
And of course y'all know our crazy judges...sorry, we were channelling Tyra Banks for a second there. But this show has one of the more impressive judging panels we've seen. Joseph Middleton, a casting director who's worked on Legally Blonde, Mr & Mrs Smith and LOWCULTURE favourite Bring It On. Vivica A. Fox, who you might recognise from a bunch of things, but probably most likely from Kill Bill; and the irrepressible Faye Dunaway, who is quite keen to whip these bitches into shape. Not literally, sadly.
This week the girls are competing to film a commercial and go to a swanky premiere. Thanks to IMDB we've found out who won, and...well, let's just say that she didn't really do much other than the aforementioned walk-on for the WB. As ever, the runner-up went on to do slightly more (we stress the word "slightly, but hey, at least she had a speaking role in Charmed), but since when have we cared about the careers of these people? When was the last time we saw Naima Mora on a billboard, eh?
