Farmed out

One of our favourite characters is taking her leave from the village this week, and we couldn’t let the occasion pass without note. We’re talking, of course, about Chastity Dingle, who is leaving to join the army. It’s certainly an unusual route for a character to take out of a soap, but since this is the very same programme that accommodated Sheree Murphy’s maternity leave by sending Trisha off to India to star in a Bollywood movie, we find it best not to question such things. Anyway, having been disgusted for the last time by her family’s nefarious deeds, Chas decides to leave the village behind and take up a life of military discipline instead, leaving a brokenhearted Carl behind. Fret not, however, as Lucy Pargeter is just off on maternity leave and Chastity will be returning. Huzzah! Meanwhile, Debbie’s secret pregnancy is getting less and less secret by the day. Best to invest in a tin helmet now in preparation for the day when Cain finds out about it.
