» Jason Donovan made his British stage debut in Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 1991.
» Bill Waddington announced he was quitting as Coronation Street's Percy Sugden in 1997, because there was too much sex in the programme. Scripts depicting him in a threesome with Emily Bishop and Rita Sullivan were, apparently, the final straw.
» Sandy (who?) escaped from the Big Brother 3 house on this day last year.
» Johanna Spyri, who wrote Heidi, was born on this day in 1829. And Billy Butlin – the man who, indirectly, gifted the world H from Steps – died on this day in 1980.
