Mercury seems to have grabbed firmly on to the pensioner’s pound, judging by the efforts of the latest Fame Academy participant to grace the airwaves.
Malachi Cush’s album, Malachi (see what they did there?) was released this week, to rapturous indifference at lowculture towers.
With the grinning-yet-sensitive (David) and sensitive-yet-screwy (Ainsley) avenues already taken up, there was obviously much head-scratching before it was decided there was only one category left that would suit the former gas fitter: That of the Celtic crooner.
Mind you, there are two qualities that make him perfect for the position: 1) He’s Irish, and 2) Daniel O’Donnell isn’t getting any younger.
Judging by the television advert for the album - featuring a montage of the Malachi's covers of the omnipresent Fields of Gold and Van Morrison’s Have I Told You Lately – the County Tyrone lad has had no problem settling into his new style. He even thanks his granny on the album sleeve.
And before you complain, those of you who’ve forgotten about Mother’s Day this Sunday now have the easy option to please Ma.

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
