Replacing the irreplaceable
With Crossroads about to come to a probably-quite-timely end, the search is on for something suitable to replace it in our hearts and the ITV1 schedules (but mostly our hearts).
Happily, lowculture reader Darryl thinks he has found the ideal replacement – New Zealand soap Shortland Street, which is already shown in some ITV regions (but not ours).
According to our spy, Shortland Street is the mutant love-child of Crossroads and Holby City, which sounds almost too good to be true.
The storylines sound incomprehensible to us (today, for example, "Rachel tells Chris that she had a tube form his briefcase tested and it is moffin"), but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Darryl loves it so much that he's started a petition to have it shown in all UK regions.
But, as we've never seen it, we don't know whether to throw our not very considerable weight behind his campaign. So that's where you come in. Click on the comment link and share your Shortland Street thoughts with us.
If we're not convinced, the campaign to revive early-90s trashfest Families (the one that was set in Manchester and Australia, and gave the world Jude Law) will begin here shortly.
