Copycat crime
Ireland has been gripped by a Eurovision Song Contest scandal.
They decided to stage a Pop Idol-style series called You're A Star to select their entry this year, which itself threw up some interesting coincidences. For instance, the song by the guy who got second place was written by Westlife's Brian, whose sister was a contestant who was eliminated in one of the early rounds and whose wife Kerry was one of the judges, none of which seem quite right to us.
Now there is uproar because Irish broadcaster RTÉ has been asked to submit a back-up song after it was pointed out that the winner's selection, We've Got The World, sounds quite a lot like Fly On The Wings of Love, which was a winner for Olsen Brothers a few years ago. This means that Brian's song might still go through and poor Mickey Harte, the winning singer, could be left high and dry.
We agree that there's a bit of a similarty, especially in the first line of the chorus. Go here for a listen to all the Irish entries and see what you think.
Incidentally, the offending song was written by Keith Molloy and Martin Brannigan, who are the pop geniuses behind B*Witched's C'est La Vie.
