SPOOFY! Star Stories, Channel 4, 9.00pm

David and Victoria - the actual ones.Topical comedy - awesome, isn't it? We generally think so. We're not at all sure we can label this "topical" comedy, however, since the trailers seem to imply it's going to spoof the wedding of the Beckhams. And it's not like everyone else worth their salt did that years ago, is it?

But since we're charitable types, we're willing to give this a go, since it's actually got the potential to be quite funny. From what we've gathered, it's a spoof televisual version of Hello! magazine, with celebrities opening up their homes and private lives to the viewers at home in order to tell us the real story about all those pesky tabloid rumours. It doesn't sound massively revelatory, but it is from the people behind Peep Show, which pretty much gives it an automatic pass to "worthy of further study".

It'll be interesting to see who features in the next set of programmes, anyway. If they can try to spoof some people who aren't permanently on the verge of self parody anyway, it could be rather good.

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
