How does he do it?
How does Gareth Gates manage to become this week's No.1 (according to the midweeks) with hardly any promotional appearances? The only answers we can think of are:
a) Teenage girls have some sort of radar that tells them when his songs are out and they rush out to buy them
b) People think "it's for charity" so their one good deed of the year is to buy this (they will never listen to it, but Comic Relief still benefits, so what's the problem with that?)
c) They were entertained by his performance on Celebrity Driving School, so ran to their local Virgin (not Gareth, if Jordan is to be believed) to get any songs that he has brought out
d) People love hearing the story about how the poor northern lad with a stutter turned into this oh-so-succesful manufactured pop act without a stutter (bit like a modern-day Cinderella) and are signed up to his website newsletter.
