BLOKES! Sorted, BBC1, 9.00pm
You may have spotted an article about the new arrangements for the British postal system on LOWCULTURE over the weekend. Contrary to popular belief, this was not a piece of random musing on our part, or a space-filler, but in fact an extremely clever teaser-trailer-type thing for the fact that we were going to be talking about Sorted today. We are clever like that.
This would be a new drama from the Beeb, then, set in and around a Manchester sorting office, centering around the personal lives of the people who work there. Its creator waxed lyrical in this week's Radio Times about the need for a more realistic portrayal of men in TV drama (since, in a slightly bizarre reversal of gender-lines, men are often now the useless bits of furniture in the background of drama series that centre around strong women - not that we ever had a problem with that in Footballers' Wives), so hopefully this is going to be some kind of testosterone-a-go-go-type-thing (no, we're not being paid by the hyphen, if you're wondering).
We've not seen any episodes yet, due to our unfortunate lack of time travel capabilities (although we watched the opening scene on the BBC website, and props to the production team for their attempt at making delivering post look glamorous and dramatic in a CSI style), but we can express a hearty approval of the cast list, including Dean Lennox Kelly and Mark Womack in leading roles (we'll just try to ignore the presence of Will Mellor as best we can), and roles for Eva "Bad Girls" Pope, Nina "in lots of things but most recently in Doctor Who" and please, pray silence for the patron saint of LOWCULTURE in these dark, Tanya Turner-less times, Ms Tracy-Ann Oberman. Woo! With casting choices like that, it's almost like it was made for us. Oh BBC, you shouldn't have.
